The 4.2 V8 079-series is more reliable than the 3.0T. Audi 077-Series V8 32 / 40V Guru. The 3.0T and 3.2 N/A are also chain-driven, similar set-up to the 4.2 079-series. Same strengths and weaknesses in terms of timing gear. The 4.2 V8 079-series is more reliable than the 3.0T. I know little about the 4.2.
The O2 sensors of course are down on the exhaust header pipes--the front ones that is. You can just barely see them (maybe) if you look about a foot down back at the far rear of the motor on the two sides. A better view requires pulling the air box, MAF and intake tube that leads to throttle body. 4.2l V8 major oil consumption/leak. Hello, I'm new to the Audi world, and I've recently purchased a 2004 S4 V8. The car consumes/leaks 1 litre of oil ever 100 miles!! I can see no obvious leaks on top of the engine and the timing chain area appears to be dry, also no smoke from the exhaust but a slight whiff of hot oil from engine area. Supercharger kit for 4.2 V8???????? I am looking for a supercharger kit for my 2001 A6 4.2l V8. Does anyone know a manufacturer that makes a good reliable bolt on kit? Or is this going to be a hard schooling on German engineering. I have made sysems work on other cars, but the under hood had twice the space.
People have just used a hone to rough up the surface for new rings, however if your going to build the engine, you will need over sized pistons as tolerances for that engine are very tight, meaning a hone job will probably take too much material off. 02-23-2010 10:35 PM #13. 650RS.
