Asimple solution is to add 16:9 resolutions below 720p like 1152×648 or 1024×576. In my opinion, these resolutions look way better than any 4:3 resolution, there will be no black bars, text will be much more readable and UI will look fine. You will also gain a good amount of performance like you would with those 4:3 resolutions.

Ifyou want to use 16:10 resolutions and your OS only list 16:9 resolutions for a 16:9 monitor (duh) If you really want the black bars, force a 16:10 resolution via your Nvidia Control Panel or AMD's CCC. For Nvidia , you can click in CP on Display > Change Resolution > Customize
